Its da Veekend :)

Ahhh! This is what most of humanity works its butt off for 5 crazy days. The promise of that glorious weekend.

By Friday, I have an impossible list of stuff I need, wish and want to accomplish during those two precious days.

Bank,Dentist,Meet Aunt,Shopping,Laundry,Plumber,Salon,Tailor,more Shopping, Spring cleaning,Movie,Study,Call XYZ, email,catchup on Sleep, Groceries,Paint nails, Exercise,Eat out,Read that book, call Carpenter,Cook a homemade meal, Pay bills,courier something.....

What actually happens:

Friday night: Collapse on couch, eat calorie-dense junk and watch mindless stuff on TV till the wee hours in defiance of the weekly schedule endured so far.

Sat : Spend entire morning wishing you could kill the maid, the laundry-guy,and the milk man for ringing the doorbell so bleep early! Loll around in bed for as long as possible. Finally get up,zombie around bleary-eyed and fix some breakfast .Then read the newspapers in slow motion ..bathe..watch tv...Get so hungry by lunchtime that there's no option but to hit the nearest food court.. eat like crazy. .then shop like crazy.. Get your freshly shampooed hair ruined by all that traffic smoke..Catch a flick..get groceries and lotsa exotic veggies that will eventually rot ... back home, more TV.

Sun: Wake up feeling guilty about having spent too much, and then realize that none of those errands on the list can be done today 'coz its a Sunday. They should have been done yesterday.Cook a delayed lunch so elaborate that you gorge on it and end up napping for a full 3 hrs. Wake up feeling lousy about the weekend getting over, clean up house as much as possible and then call folks n friends. Try to sleep early but fail thanks to that nap, so watch more TV till late and wake up on Monday feeling more-sleep deprived than you did on Friday night. And start hoping for the next weekend ....

Bhai! Chikan fry!

I caught Bommarillu on DVD yesterday and enjoyed it. I was watching a Telugu movie after a long time and what made it even more fun was the way my brother was reacting to all the jokes... he would keep bursting into his trademark cackle-cum-giggle which was really hilarious. He was as funny as Genelia was in the movie :) I bet watching a Ravi Teja flick will be as enjoyable.

I guess things have changed a bit ..this is probably the first time that we are 'proactively' watching Telugu movies..having lived out of Hyd most of our lives,we were pretty Telugu-challenged until now. It's only now that we get the jokes I guess.

Anyway, what's even more fun is that our man has learnt how to make chicken fry and I am going to be his willing guinea pig today. Oh boy !it's going to rain for sure!

Beeyoutifoool beta

Here I was, gallivanting around Sindhi Colony, when stupidity-n-curiosity got the better of me and I sauntered into this store that looked interesting ...

..I was almost immediately overwhelmed by this gentle giant of a lady who breathlessly welcomed me ..and what followed was a crazy flurry of fur and her.. I mean in between showing me with great aplomb,"smart" dresses that would look "beeeyoutifoool on you beta", she managed to elicit info all my favourite colours, places, seasons and food without blinking.

Nothing could stop her! not even the earthly need to breathe. And all that beta beta beta was really really testing! So before she could thrust another hideous fluroscent floral pink "smart" thingy at me, I scrammed using my mobile ringing as an excuse. Pooh! the only time that I was glad to hear "Guddd afternun Ma'am. I yam calling from etcHSBC..."

Happy I - Day!!

Ok.. so every news channel worth its byte is on the I-day band-bajao-wagon and that once- in- a-year jingoistic-cum-senti stuff seems too contrived for my liking.

I think the average truck driver wears his patriotism (and his sense of H) better on those bumpers.

Nevertheless, I think the Rahman-Kanika-Bala tributes on TV are the only ones I really like watching. I like the photography especially . Or do you call it cinematography? Whatever.

Overall, I guess I'm just happy living in a country that is free and evolving and interesting. It may not be as 'great' as the other more 'developed' ones but I still like it here. It's home. Period.

Happy Independence Day peeepul!

Upto 50% off

Phew! Today was an absolute busy bee contrast to yesterday's lazy bones. I finally got done with the one thing that bothers me the most while switching jobs- the med exam.
Once I got that out of the way, I indulged in my favourite sport ..
Shopping!!

And all around stores yelled out their discounts. It was almost like the whole of Hyd was on upto 50% sale!

Hated the traffic though...was like half the world was honking its way around..plus all that flyover contruction chaos..that sort of thing just turns me into a total misanthrope... feel like clobbering everybody in the 50 mile radius.. but when I have cooled down a bit I am fascinated by just how many people there are on the roads.. Wohoo! India is definitely bursting at the seams!

On the bright side, I did all my fav. jaunts.. all the places I haven't been to in a while...and after the usual mall hopping...took the easier drive via Necklace road (above) in the rain ... and floated past those tempting biryani aromas from Paradise ..then the mirchi bajji joints..ahh! It felt like I have never been away.
The rain kinda made up for one of the things that I miss the most about Pune - the superb weather. Hyd's 30 degrees seem warmmm compared to Pune's balmy 24s and my first few days here made me really miss Pune's clement breezes. Whenever I feel that way, I just look back on that one summer in sultry Chennai and it pretty much ends the boo-hoo.

Monet's Waterlilies

One of my favourite paintings

And Jumbo gets a Ton!

This was fun! Of all the 'greats' on the Indian team, Kumble got a ton at the Oval today.Made my lazing-napping around on the couch totally worth it !

While on that , I guess there is nothing more 'nap-friendly' than a test match or an Animal Planet documentary. The soporific tones of the commentators make it so easy to drift off.... until of course some stupid commercial like the one with Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's ' Mind and Body' anthem breaks in and grates on the ears. REALLY, what were they thinking when they made that? Inspirational?....Nah.. "'Irritational"!

Oh, Oh! then there are those 'cute' duck cartoons or Airtel tunes that rudely interrupt a point that poor Bhogle & Shastri are painfully trying to make... Grrrrrr

Anyway, the napping was punctuated by a movie on HBO called Breakdown starring Kurt Russell. Was general timepass stuff a la Vacancy that released earlier this year (which I liked and some people did not).
